Mutually Beneficial Partnership
Today Agfa owns (99%) and operates the Joint-Venture ‘Agfa Wuxi Film Production Company Ltd.’, a key Chinese production facility in the city of Wuxi about 120 km from Shanghai. This JV with the Chinese Partner ‘Wuxi Aermei Film & Chemicals Corporation’ implies the finishing and packaging of Medical X-ray film, Colour Paper and Colour Film.
Agfa’s relationship with Aermei began in the mid 1980s and progressed over the years to become a mutually beneficial arrangement, which included the full endorsement of the Chinese authorities.
In 1989 Agfa started with the expansion of Aermei’s manufacturing capabilities and completed the construction in 1991. The good relationship between Aermei and Agfa has lead to the establishment of a Joint-Venture, from which the agreement is signed in 1995. The participation ratio in the Joint-Venture was initially a 76 % for Agfa and at the beginning of 1999 is was increased to 99 %.
Agfa’s presence in Wuxi represents a key position for Agfa, making the company a major player in China as well as the Asia region.
