In 1993, Mr. Philippe D’heygere, President C.E.O. of Stow International, joined the economic mission presided by H.R.H. Prince Albert and met the Minister Wu Yi. A first office was opened in Shanghai in June 1994 and a few large deals were made in a short period of time (with i.e. Shanghai Bell and Siemens). The opening of this first office has boosted foreign companies to make investments in production and logistics in China. Being the first company in storage goods and thanks to the high demand for this kind of products in China, Stow got a high turnover and decided to invest in a production facility located in the Port of Shanghai.
Shanghai Stow Storage Equipment Co. Ltd. (hereafter called Shanghai Stow) was inaugurated on 21st March 1996 as the Asian subsidiary company of Stow International nv. At that time, Shanghai Stow was the first fully owned foreign venture in China. In December 1996 H.R.H. Prince Philip visited Shanghai Stow together with the Vice-Premier and the Minister of Finance Maystadt. Already in 1996 and 1997, important turnovers were realized in China and it was decided to increase the production capacity and to expand the company area from 5,000 to 10,000 m².
Shanghai Stow aims to give the best service to the industry and logistics companies concerning storage products. Shanghai Stow offers logistic solutions: the main activity is the design, production, installation and sale of custom-made storage systems.
Currently, Shanghai Stow is the first manufacturer of storage products in China who is able to supply such a high quality and an overall solution, and to offer an excellent after sales service.
The Shanghai Stow product range is divided in pallet racking, wide span racking and drive-in racking. The products are available in static, drive-in, dynamic or mobile, depending on the storage needs of the customer.
From its production and sales unit situated in the port of Shanghai (Longwu Lu ‘the dragon’), the company supplies Western multinationals active in China, this mainly through its own distribution network, but also through Chinese distributors.
Shanghai Stow has developed a distribution network with own sales staff in Shanghai and has sales departments in Beijing and Guangzhou, and an office in Dalian. In 1999 Shanghai Stow started its development of this distribution network in Guangzhou, Wuhan and Shanghai, and to the calling in of external distributors.
Just as any office in Europe, the unit in Shanghai has its own engineering department in order to work out the right storage solution for the customers in the most efficient and quickest way. Moreover, every sales office has its own offer department with the support of its own engineers.
The storage equipments of Shanghai Stow have been installed in the warehouses of multinationals such as Motorola, Ikea, Ericsson, Rockwell, Siemens, L'Oréal, VW, Danone, Nike, Upjohn, BASF, Akzo, Ford, ABB, Bayer, Shanghai Bell, McDonalds, Johnson & Johnson, Citroën and Metro.
Shanghai Stow is active on the Chinese market and starts to export from China to countries of the South-East Pacific Area.
